TL;DR — The short version

1. Who We Are

IconLab is a free desktop application developed and maintained by TheHobbyist Software, a software initiative by TheHobbyist (India). Our website is www.thehobbyist.in and you can reach us at amit@thehobbyist.in.

This Privacy Policy applies to the IconLab desktop application (Windows and macOS) and the IconLab product page at thehobbyist.in/products/software/iconlab/.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

IconLab is designed from the ground up to be a fully offline, privacy-respecting tool. We do not collect, transmit, store, or process any of the following:

3. How IconLab Works — Locally Only

IconLab is an Electron desktop application. All processing — image resizing, canvas rendering, format conversion, colour extraction, background removal — happens on your own machine using local libraries (Sharp, Fabric.js). No part of this processing involves a server or cloud service.

Your workspace folder is a normal folder on your hard drive that you choose. It contains your project data in plain JSON files and image files. This folder is never read by us and is never synced anywhere.

The application uses electron-store to persist your settings (workspace path, theme preference) in a local configuration file on your device only. This file is never transmitted.

4. Network Activity

IconLab makes zero network requests during normal use. It does not phone home, check for updates automatically, send telemetry, or contact any external server.

The only scenario in which a network connection may occur is if you explicitly open an external link from within the application (such as a "Learn more" link), in which case your default browser handles that navigation — IconLab itself does not.

5. This Website

The IconLab product page at thehobbyist.in is a static HTML website. It does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics scripts. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any similar service on this page.

Standard web server logs (IP address, pages visited, browser type) may be retained by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes. We do not use these logs to identify individuals and they are not shared with any third party.

6. Third-Party Services

IconLab does not integrate with, send data to, or depend on any third-party online service. The open-source libraries bundled inside the application (Sharp, Fabric.js, Electron, React, Zustand, etc.) operate entirely locally on your device.

7. Children's Privacy

IconLab is a developer and designer tool. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age — and in fact we collect no information from anyone at all.

8. Open Source

IconLab's source code is available for inspection. If you want to verify our privacy claims, you are welcome to review the source code. The absence of any network calls, analytics libraries, or data-collection logic is verifiable by anyone.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we ever make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because we collect no data, the substance of this policy is unlikely to change — but we will be transparent if it ever does.

10. Your Rights

Because we collect no personal data, there is no personal data to access, correct, delete, or export. If you reside in the EU (GDPR), UK, California (CCPA), or any other jurisdiction with data-protection laws, those laws grant you rights over your personal data — which, in the context of IconLab, means you have nothing to worry about.
