Answers to the most common questions about Labelist — the free offline QR code, barcode and 2D code generator for Windows and macOS.
Yes. Labelist is 100% free — no paid tiers, no subscriptions, no watermarks. You can download it from the Microsoft Store at zero cost. It is free for personal and commercial use with no limitations.
No internet required. All code generation happens entirely on your device. No data is sent to any server. You can use Labelist in factories, warehouses, on flights, or anywhere without network access.
Yes. Labelist is free for both personal and commercial use. You can use it to create barcodes, QR codes and 2D codes for your products, packaging, menus, events and any other commercial application — no restrictions.
Labelist is made by TheHobbyist — a brand founded by an IIT Kanpur alumnus. We build free, privacy-respecting desktop utilities alongside educational toys, games and books. All our software is free and works offline.
Labelist supports three code standards:
A QR Code is a 2D matrix code that encodes data in both directions. Any smartphone camera can read it. It stores more data and is best for consumer-facing use (menus, links, contacts). A Code 128 barcode is a 1D linear barcode used widely in retail and logistics. It requires a barcode scanner or a dedicated scanner app. Use barcodes when your workflow involves handheld scanners at POS, warehouse or shipping stations.
In Single Gen mode you can export each code as PNG, JPG or PDF. In Bulk Gen mode, all codes are exported into a single multi-page PDF (one code per page), ready to print.
Yes. Labelist includes a color picker that lets you set a custom foreground color for any code type. This works in both Single and Bulk modes. Keep in mind that codes should have sufficient contrast against the background to scan reliably — avoid very light colors on white backgrounds.
There is no hard limit. You can put as many values as needed in your .txt file (one per line) and Labelist will generate codes for all of them. Very large batches (thousands of codes) may take a few moments depending on your computer's speed.
macOS support is coming soon. Builds for both Intel (x64) and Apple Silicon (ARM64) Macs are in progress. Check back on this page — download links will appear here once available.
Linux support (AppImage) is planned for a future release. Currently Labelist is available on Windows and macOS (coming soon).
Yes. The Microsoft Store version of Labelist updates automatically whenever we release a new version. You always have the latest features and improvements without any manual action.
